SF Vegan Bake Sale Coming in December!

After two successful bake sales, San Francisco's vegan bakers continue to help raise money for local charities just in time for the holidays.

San Francisco, CA. November 15, 2009 -- Mark your calendars for December 5th and bring your appetite. The San Francisco vegan foodie cartel will be holding a bake sale, with the proceeds benefiting two local organizations: Food Empowerment Project and Save a Bunny. The event will take place from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm in front of Ike's Place at 3506 16th St. at Sanchez and is sponsored by VegNews Magazine, Vegansaurus.com & Veg-Table.net.

Ike's Place hosted this summerÕs wildly successful vegan bake sale (part of the World Wide Vegan Bake Sale.) The San Francisco event raised more than $3,000 in two days, garnering the title of most lucrative sale in the world. Based on this success, organizers decided to make the fundraiser an on-going event, held every other month.

The most recent bake sale, held in October exceeded all expectations, raising $2600 in just three and a half hours and featuring over fifty local bakers. All proceeds went to Give Me Shelter, a local cat rescue center. Organizers are upping the stakes for the next bake sale, which will benefit two non-profits. Food Empowerment Project works with young people and low income populations to make informed, healthy food choices. (Read more at foodispower.org). Save a Bunny is a volunteer-staffed organization that rescues and assists Northern California shelters to adopt more than 300 domestic rabbits per year (saveabunny.com).

December's SF Vegan Bake Sale will feature goods from even more bakers – professionals and amateurs alike. Highlights include Cinnaholic Sweets, who recently took 1st place in SF Food WarsÕ Mini Cupcake Clash (cinnaholic.com), Sugar Beat Sweets, Violet Sweet Shoppe, whose goods can be sampled at Rainbow Grocery as well as local cafes (violetsweetshoppe.com), Bike Basket Pies and Fat Bottom Bakery. There will also be baked goods from the editors of VegNews Magazine.

All baked goods will be vegan (free of animal products), and an effort will be made to include gluten-free and low-fat baked goods. Bakers are still being recruited and donations of plates, napkins, and to-go containers are needed. Interested contributors can contact laura@vegansaurus.com.
